Considerations

  • There is only so much power you can get from your datacenter operator without renting the whole thing
  • You prefer to use 1U machines
  • You understand that there is no reason for having more than 20 machines in one rack

How To

  • Arrange in packs of three
  • Leave 1U between every three-pack
  • put the switches/routers in the middle of the rack (e.g. U23, U24, U25)
  • start out from the switches, moving forward away from them
  • put the heavier machines on the bottom
  • put UPS/PDU appliances on the bottom
  • put the power plugs on the sides
